Nadezhda Kovriga is a performer and a choreographer of Bharatnatyam, which is one of the major styles of the Indian classical dance tradition.
From 1993 till 1997 Nadezhda has studied at the Kalakshetra College of the Fine Arts (www.kalakshetra.net), that was founded in 1936 by Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale in Chennai, India.
Her teachers were the renowned and brilliant masters of Bharatnatyam (Kalakshetra) such as S.Janardhanan, Ganga Thampi, Shri Panga Thodi Narendran and Smt. Jolsna Menon.
Upon her graduation from the Kalakshetra, while still remaining in India, in 1998 Nadezhda has participated in the dance-drama production "Marthyan" that was done under the guidance of Shrijith Krishna who is one of the leading Kalakshetra performers and a gifted teacher.
Upon her return back to Russia, Nadezhda has continued her dancing career, participating in many festivals of Indian culture, which were held in Russia, Kazakhstan, Hungary and India under the patronage of the ISKCON (. Besides that, she has performed in many cities of Russia, like Vladimir, Tula, Nizhniy Novgorod, Samara and Novosibirsk, with her own dance group.
In 2003 Nadezhda has become a member of the Nritya Sabha Foundation and is one of the organizers of Foundation's various projects.
The performance style of Nadezhda Kovriga is noted by remarkable expressiveness and spiritual touch. Her dance is charged with subtle romantic emotion and beautifully harmonizes all the essential elements of dance performance.
