Tatyana Nazarova

Ms. Tatiana Nazarova, Russian national, was born in Moscow, Russia, and since her childhood had special interest in dances. In 1992 she joined Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Moscow, where she received her initial training in Kathak dance under the tutelage of Smt. Shakti Roberts.

In 1994 Ms. Nazarova was granted a scholarship by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India (www.iccrindia.org), to pursue her dance study in India. She got admission in the National Institute of Kathak Dance “Kathak Kendra”, New Delhi (www.indianetzone.com), from where she successfully completed her three-year Diploma Honours Course in 1997 and two-year Post Diploma Course in 1999 under the guidance of eminent Guru Shri Munna Shukla (www.gurumunnashukla.com) of Lucknow Gharana. Further on for the next three years Tatiana pursued learning an elaborated part and subtle nuances of Kathak repertoire from her Guru that helped her to evolve a unique dance presentation of her own.

With enchanting stage presence and strong command over Kathak technique she earned acclaim for her intense, emotional and graceful Kathak recitals, given in India, Russia and some other countries.

As a leading dancer of Guru Munna Shukla’s performing group Ms.Tatiana has danced at many major festivals all over India i.e. Khajuraho All-India dance festival (www.mpculture.in),  Kathak Mahotsav, Nritya Pratibha (both organised by Sangeet Natak Academy, (www.sangeetnatak.org), Vasantautsav (organised by Pt.Birju Maharaj), Shivratri Fair (Mandi), Dushera festival (Kullu), Natyanjali festival (Chidambaram).

Some of the renowned organisations like Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Sangeet Natak Academy, National Institute of Kathak Dance “Kathak Kendra” have also invited Ms.Tatiana to participate as a soloist in their festivals (Kaleidoscop festival, Nritya Pratibha festival of upcoming dancers, Natyanjali festival). Beside that she gave noteworthy solo recitals in Indian Habitat World and Indian International Centre.

All of Tatiana’s major performances have been well received by audience as well as critics and covered by Indian TV Channels. In 2001 she participated in the evening live-show "Young Achievers. Kathak Dancers", telecasted by Doordarshan National TV Channel.

Tatiana’s devotion for Kathak dance, her hard working and successful performances were recognised by Indian government. In 2007 Ms. Tatiana became an empanelled artist of Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

In 2000-2001 Ms. Tatiana taught Kathak dance in Brahmanand Public School (at present Alaknanda Institute for performing arts), New Delhi (www.kathakindia.org).

After the successful and intensive years in India, Ms. Tatiana returned to Russia. Back to Moscow her main aim is to promote Indian dance and various aspects of Indian culture. For that she continued performing, teaching as well as giving lectures-demonstrations, conducting workshops on Indian art and culture not only in Moscow but also in many cities of Russia and abroad: Switzerland (October, 2005; September, 2008) and Armenia (National Dance Troup of Armenia, 2007).

In 2005 Ms. Tatiana presented Kathak Dance recital in Edinburgh International Festival (Edinburgh,Scotland, www.edinburghinternationalfestival.com) and International Festival “Ethnolife” (Moscow, Russia). In September, 2008 she was honoured to perform with her Guru - Munna Shukla in the programme “Guru-Shishya parampara” (Geneva, Switzerland).

In 2003 Ms. Tatyana became a co-founder and artistic director of “Nritya Sabha” - the Foundation of Indian Cultural Heritage Studies (www.nrityas.ru). She plays a leading role as a dancer and choreographer in all productions of the Foundation (as for e.g. Das Avatar, Shrishti, Raga Ranga, and Ritu Chakra). Also she is one of the main organizers of Moscow Competitions of Indian dance performers and All-Russia Indian dance competition – Festival of Colours. Tatiana is often invited as a jury member at various dance festivals.

In 2009 with the recommendation of Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Moscow (www.indianembassy.ru) Tatiana got the ICCR Orientation grant for three months advanced theoretical studies and practical training that she has done under the guidance of her Guru – Shri Munna Shukla.
